About Fire Doors
Designed to slow the spread of fire from one area to another, a fire door will buy you time so people can leave a building safely and fires can be extinguished.
Service and maintenance of your Fire Doors - What you need to know
As a manager or owner of a building, it’s your responsibility to make sure the following minimum requirements are met:
- Most fire doors must be inspected and tested every three months.
- Frames, panels, door seals and hinges are just some of the parts of a fire door that must be checked for compliance.
- Fire doors must meet requirements set out in Australian Standards (AS 1851-2005 and AS/NZS 1905.1). For example, all fire doors must be tagged correctly, displaying specific information which is outlined in legislation.
- According to fire protection legislation in Australia, fire doors must be regularly inspected and maintained by someone who has the right skills and experience – and is legally allowed to do the job.
